According to the National Fire Protection Association, an average of 1,450 fire deaths occur every year in homes with missing or non-functioning fire alarms.
Smoke alarms do not last forever. it is recommended to replace the smoke alarms every 10 years in order to achieve optimum performance.
It is recommended to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside of each sleeping area, on every level of your home including the basement, on levels without bedrooms such as the living room and kitchen, and near the stairways leading to upper levels.
Some other great tips are to consider using interconnected smoke alarms for additional safety and early warning. Do not install near windows, doors, or ducts, and NEVER paint smoke alarms.
